RoboTruck Selected for the 2026 Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism " Demonstration Project Toward Social Implementation of Autonomous Driving Trucks for Trunk Transport " in Consortium with Toyota Tsusho, Seven Logistics Operators, Hino Motors

2026.07.01

TOKYO, July 1st, 2026 —RoboTruck Inc. (Chuo-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Yusuke Haga; hereinafter "RoboTruck") announces that it has been selected by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) for the "Project for Supporting the Social Implementation of Autonomous Driving Trucks," participating as a member of the "Toyota Tsusho Consortium."

This 11-company consortium comprises Toyota Tsusho Corporation as the lead representative, 7 logistics operators (Otsuka Warehouse Co., Ltd., Konoike Transport Co., Ltd., Sagawa Express Co., Ltd., Shibusawa Logistics Corporation., Suzuyo & Co., Ltd., Seino Transportation Co., Ltd., and Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd.), Hino Motors, Ltd., and Advanced Smart Mobility Co., Ltd.

Following last year's 'Demonstration Project Toward Social Implementation of Autonomous Driving Trucks for Trunk Transport', our participation marks the second consecutive year in this MLIT project. This year, we have welcomed a significantly larger number of logistics partners to the consortium.

With the technical support from Hino Motors, RoboTruck will accelerate its development and on-road testing to achieve the swift social implementation of autonomous driving trucks.

Project Overview

RoboTruck is responsible for the technical development of the autonomous driving system and plans to conduct autonomous driving trials using an autonomous semi-trailer truck (hereinafter "autonomous semi-trailer") between logistics hubs in the Kanto and Kansai regions. *1

Semi-trailers deliver a much higher transport capacity than standard box trucks. Furthermore, by swapping trailers at logistics hubs, these vehicles decouple loading and unloading operations from actual driving. This separation maximizes the tractor’s on-road time and significantly boosts overall logistics efficiency. However, autonomous driving for semi-trailers has long been seen as a major technical challenge. Their extreme length and articulated (jointed) structure make steering highly complex, particularly when ensuring stability during lane changes.

RoboTruck has overcome these challenges by utilizing our proprietary AI technology, successfully completing autonomous semi-trailer on-road trials between the Kanto and Chubu regions last year. This year, we aim to expand our autonomous driving routes and take a step closer to actual operations by conducting test runs with loaded cargo.

*1: The demonstration will be conducted under conditions where a driver is on board and can immediately intervene in driving operations

● Message from Yusuke Haga, CEO of RoboTruck Inc.

RoboTruck is ‘a system company’ focusing on a single, clear mission: achieving Level 4 autonomous driving technology as rapidly as possible. We deliver autonomous driving systems under the premise that logistics operators themselves will lead vehicle operations, rather than undertaking truck manufacturing or logistics operations directly.

With even more logistics companies participating in the consortium compared to last year, we strongly feel the high expectations for the swift social implementation of autonomous driving technology to help resolve the labor shortages facing the logistics industry. Collaborating closely with Hino Motors within the consortium, we are committed to pursuing fast-paced development and on-road testing, while ensuring the highest standards of safety.
