Robotruck Inc. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Yusuke Haga), developing autonomous driving solutions for trucks, has successfully raised approximately JPY 1.2 billion in a Pre-Series A financing round. Globis Capital Partners led the round, with ORIX Corporation and multiple other investors participating.
Company Overview
Robotruck is a startup aiming to solve Japan’s “2024
logistics problem” through world-class autonomous truck
technology.
Founder Nan Wu conducted autonomous driving research at
Waseda University, serving as research assistant and senior
researcher (visiting associate professor). In 2016, he
co-founded a U.S.-based autonomous driving startup, leading
the development of the world’s first Level 4 autonomous
heavy truck and achieving NASDAQ listing.
As a new challenge, Robotruck was established in Japan in
April 2024. Leveraging proprietary AI algorithms and
technology, the company was selected for the Ministry of
Economy, Trade and Industry’s “Unmanned Autonomous Driving
Development & Demonstration Support Project for Mobility
DX,” successfully completing approximately 100 km of Level
4-equivalent road testing on the Shin-Tomei Expressway
within its first year.
Future plans include Level 4-equivalent demonstration
experiments on the Tokyo–Nagoya route in FY2025, Tokyo–Osaka
in FY2026, and product launch in FY2028. Robotruck aims to
become a leader in long-distance autonomous driving in
Japan, closely supporting existing logistics ecosystem and
addressing customer challenges.
Accelerating Business Development with Investors
In March 2025, Robotruck completed a seed round of
approximately JPY 300 million, with investments from UTokyo
Innovation Platform Co., Ltd., PKSHA Algorithm Fund, and AIS
Capital Limited.
In this Pre-Series A round, new investors included ORIX
Corporation, Archetype Ventures Inc, Mizuho Leaguer
Investment, ON&BOARD Co., Ltd.., Ikuyo Co., Ltd., and
JinTomioka (CEO, Telexistence Inc.), alongside existing
investors UTokyo Innovation Platform Co., Ltd., PKSHA
Algorithm Fund, and AIS Capital Limited, raising
approximately JPY 1.2 billion in total.
Funds will strengthen technical development and accelerate
business growth with new and existing investors. ORIX,
including its subsidiary ORIX Auto Corporation, will
cooperate as a partner for the commercialization of
Robotruck’s Level 4 logistics autonomous driving system,
contributing to the logistics industry through autonomous
driving technology.
Strengthening Management Team
In June 2025, Yusuke Haga assumed the role of Co-Founder and
CEO.
Haga graduated from Keio University and joined Mitsubishi
Corporation, working in automotive sales and marketing for
Southeast Asia. Returning to Japan, he engaged in aerospace
business, new business development, JV establishment, and
startup investments. Later, as COO of SkyDrive, he led
flying car and drone business operations, contributing to
the company’s growth. His experience in mobility and
startups will drive Robotruck’s development.
